I’m real proud to announce that I’ll have a poem in qarrtsiluni’s forthcoming health issue. I’m excited about this one, about participating in qarrtsiluni’s adventure in combining poetry with the full possibilities of the web. I hope to make my audio for the podcast this weekend after I’ve slept off all the turkey.

They’re accepting submissions until November 30, so get those poems in the e-mail. Also put qarrtsiluni on your feed so you can enjoy the daily podcast.

Also, I can’t believe I haven’t told you that I’ll have a video up on Shape of a Box later this year. I guess I was going to wait and spring it on you poor unsuspecting souls.

Anyhoo, that’s another exciting direction I’m overextending myself in. Another experiment in making full use of the web’s possibilities for expanding the functions of poetry.

I’m going to try to put the video together myself — in spite of having no video camera — and son Tom has promised to supply some graphics, so keep your fingers crossed. And any advice would be welcome.

Meanwhile keep an eye on Shape of a Box at YouTube or at the blog. Jessie puts up a new video every week, a tremendous job at which she gets better and better.

Please send contributions (along with short bios) in the form of .doc or .rtf attachments as well as (to be on the safe side) in the body of your message. And please be sure to include “HSR20 submission from [your name]” in your subject line.

For nonfiction, send your contribution to Reamy Jansen at reamyjj@gmail.com.
For poetry, send your contribution to Roger Mitchell at hsrpoetryroger@gmail.com.

Guidelines. Roger Mitchell is new to the poetry editor position. He’s a fine poet himself. I heard him read at the IUWC a few years ago and have been a fan ever since.

Festival of the Trees is looking for entries.

Just a quick reminder that less than a week remains in which to post something about trees or forests and send the link to me (bontasaurus [at] yahoo [dot] com) for inclusion in the December 1 edition of the Festival of the Trees. The deadline is November 29. See here for complete details.

Photographer Robert Gumpert has been documenting the criminal justice system for decades. His new project is a website called Take a Picture, Tell a Story, where he matches photos from the inside with recordings of his subjects talking about whatever is on their mind.
