    Flooded streets in Paris, Kentucky

This is what the city of Paris looked like when I drove home from work Monday evening. Nearly every day, we’ve been getting these locally heavy cloudbursts, and this one overwhelmed the drainage system of my small town. The text says the water was more than two feet deep at its worst. I didn’t drive the particular street shown and I don’t think I drove through two feet of water, but the water was definitely over the curbs. The photo is from the Bourbon County Citizen for June 17, 2009.

This morning’s storm lasted only about ten minutes but it knocked our power out for three hours and took three big branches out of the black locust by the driveway. Though, to be sure, one of the branches, one as big around as my body, had already been broken by January’s ice and I suspect the others had been damaged.

By the way, all this happened on the south side of town. When I got to the north side, where I live, the roads were practically dry.

    Happy Solstice.

  1. For the time being, our weather has finally straightened out and lapsed into more typical summertime hot. Sorry you are still getting rain and storms.

  2. Seems like we’re hitting a lull here, too, Marvin. Unfortunately, we’re heading into a very busy time for us so catching up on chores will be hard — not to mention the added chore of clearing up the poor old black locust.
