A fungus?
(2)This cool spring of copious rain has produced a prodigious blooming — iris, black locusts, honeysuckle — I suppose because, while it has been cold, we have not had the hard late freeze we sometimes have when spring gets too hot too fast.
Among the other things this wet has given us are these red fungi, which sprung up behind the workshop where the ground is particularly soggy and untended. Can you all tell me what they are?

Scarlet cup fungi? Size can be “minute to 2cm across” according to this page:

A simple, accurately descriptive name, Dave, and that looks like it. Certainly plenty of hardwood sticks scattered about.
