Twenty Days for Peace and Justice

Today and for the next 20 days, the Central Kentucky Council for Peace and Justice is sponsoring Twenty Days for Peace and Justice.

The Kickoff Concert tonight, 7:00 - 9:30, on the patio of the University of Kentucky Student Center is sponsored by the UK chapter of Amnesty International, the UK chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, the UK Socialist Student Union (neat! who knew there was one?), and WRFL (Radio Free Lexington), a station you should check into if you haven’t already done so.

Noteworthy events include Writing Peace and Justice: A Reading by the Affrilachian Poets at the Carnegie Center of Literacy and Learning, October 10, beginning at 6:30 and with a reception following catered by Stella’s Kentucky Deli.

October 11, which is Eleanor Roosevelt’s birthday, features a Mountaintop Removal Teach-in at the Newman Center.

On October 24, which is United Nation’s Day, a Green Breakfast with Ben Chandler and Jim Newberry.

All this and much more.

Sherry: thanks SO MUCH for the plug for 20 Days. Another “not-to-be-missed” event in the lineup of activities is the Benefit Concert at the Kentucky Theater on the 23rd of October, a Thursday night: Featured performers are George Ella and Steve Lyon, Alma Gitana and the Reel World String Band. You can call the Kentucky for tickets ($20; $15 with Student I.D.) at 859.231.7924 or 859.231.6997.

You are more than welcome, Gail. Folks, by all means, don’t forget the Benefit Concert.

And Gail, I apologize for getting the name of the Council wrong. It’s the problem with blogs. No copy editor to keep you from embarassing yourself.
