Today and for the next 20 days, the Central Kentucky Council for Peace and Justice is sponsoring Twenty Days for Peace and Justice.

The Kickoff Concert tonight, 7:00 - 9:30, on the patio of the University of Kentucky Student Center is sponsored by the UK chapter of Amnesty International, the UK chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, the UK Socialist Student Union (neat! who knew there was one?), and WRFL (Radio Free Lexington), a station you should check into if you haven’t already done so.

Noteworthy events include Writing Peace and Justice: A Reading by the Affrilachian Poets at the Carnegie Center of Literacy and Learning, October 10, beginning at 6:30 and with a reception following catered by Stella’s Kentucky Deli.

October 11, which is Eleanor Roosevelt’s birthday, features a Mountaintop Removal Teach-in at the Newman Center.

On October 24, which is United Nation’s Day, a Green Breakfast with Ben Chandler and Jim Newberry.

All this and much more.

You might also want to sign up for Peaceways newsletter, edited by a writing colleague, Gail Koehler.

Thanks to Andrea for the nudge.

Hard to recognize Charlie in a coat and tie.

There’s a real nice video here in which he looks more like himself. Be warned: the link goes directly to a Windows Media file.
