If you look over at my “Today in History” section, you’ll see a list: Two, Three, Four, and now Five Years. I don’t want to see this list grow.
Vigils and Observances:
In Berea:
Solemn Memorial and Vigil for Peace and Reconciliation in Iraq
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Wednesday March 19th
Steps of Union Church,
corner of Prospect and Scaffoldcane (near the College Square)
March 19th is the 5th Anniversary of the start of the current War in Iraq. To mark the occasion, the Peace and Social Justice Program of Berea College along with the Campus Christian Center are sponsoring a “Solemn Memorial and Vigil for Peace and Reconciliation in Iraq.” There will be music and reflections by invited speakers, including President Shinn. The program’s centerpiece will be a solemn reading of the names of the 63 Kentucky servicemen and servicewomen who have given their lives, as well as a corresponding number of names of Iraqis who have been killed.
Participants are encouraged to bring signs that reflect religious and humanitarian hopes and prayers for peace. In case of rain, the vigil will be held inside Union Church. Please forward this message to others and plan to join us in making this a prayerful and powerful call for an end to this tragic conflict.
