Lonely as a cloud…

First daffodil

Wine enough this dreary Kentucky spring, viniculture having replaced tobacco culture on some Eden Shale hills, but nary a rose and, here on the farm, only this one puny daffodil, what we used to call Easter lilies, sheltered by the south wall of the house. Daddy used to say an early Easter meant an early spring but so far this one is the exception to that rule. It’s been a muddy winter, brown and gray with torrents of rain. Ice but only one sizable snow. These daffodils are a month late. Only green hints of leaves emerging on the twigs.

Lonely perhaps, Sherry, but nonetheless, a comfortable place to wander.

There are, Helen, much worse things than being lonely.
