First do no harm (to those who can pay the bills)
A correspondent has sent a link to this blog entry at the RedTape Chronicles:
The folks who invented the credit score for lenders are hard at work developing a similar tool for hospitals and other health care providers.
The project, dubbed “MedFICO” in some early press reports, will aid hospitals in assessing a patient’s ability to pay their medical bills. But privacy advocates are worried that the notorious errors that have caused frequent criticism of the credit system will also cause trouble with any attempt to create a health-related risk score. They also fear that a low score might impact the quality of the health care that patients receive.
Impact the quality of healthcare? Surely you jest. Doctors aren’t in this for the money. Of course not.
It’s the Bush years, folks. The CIA is spying on us, our employers are spying on us, the Supreme Court is overturning Roe v. Wade piecemeal, and now our doctors will be spying on us?
Privacy? What’s that?

Privacy? Spying? Bush and his shrubbers aren’t the only spies in our society. The so-called “liberals” have their own “military imperative” in action here at home. If I pop my grandson on the butt for being a brat on Aisle 3 at Kroger’s, a do-gooder will report me to social services. If I kill a dog for growling at me on my property, another do-gooder will report me for animal cruelty. And on and on. The solution is simple. My business is none of your business, and your business is none of my business.
