Cloneblogging

Word just in that the domestic cat cloned at the University of Texas has given birth to three kittens. They are alleged to be inordinately cute. As if there were not enough stray kittens produced each day, certain wise folks in Texas [neocon wannabes?] have decided to boost that number with genetically engineered breeding stock. I can empathize with pet owners who are especially fond of a certain pet and wish to have another just like it. But where is the sense of adventure in having that same cat again? All of our cats have had distinct personalities, but you can’t step in the same river twice and the wish to do so seems unnatural to me. What is wrong with some of these folks, anyway–were they selectively dropped on their heads? Or maybe they were produced by too much inbreeding.
