Still Demeaned after all these years

Fearless Reader’s Maladministration is proposing to install OB-GYN Eric Keroack as assistant secretary for the Office of Population Affairs. He will be in charge of overseeing family planning at Title X. He is one of those antiabortion zealots who has started showing purported ultrasounds to women who are contemplating termination of their unwanted pregnancies in his “pregnancy crisis center.” The money quote from this guy– “[T]he crass commercialization and distribution of birth control is demeaning to women, degrading of human sexuality and adverse to human health and happiness.”

Ben Franklin had some advice to a young friend who was having trouble suppressing the Natural Urges of his Poor Little Richard: find a post-menopausal mistress, because:

“2 … when Women cease to be handsome they study to be good….”

“3…there is no Hazard of Children, which irregularly produc’d may be attended with much Inconvenience.”

“4….People might be rather inclin’d to forgive an old Woman, who would take care of a young Man, [and] would…prevent his ruining his Health & Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.”

“5….covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the girdle, it is impossible of two Women to tell an old one from a young one. And as in the Dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of Corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior; every Knack being, by Practice, capable of Improvement.”

Wasn’t Corporal Enjoyment hang’d for a Turncoat in the War of 1812? Interesting that there is no advice from wise old Ben on how a young Woman may quell her Natural Urges.

Keroack’s information may be slightly deficient as to the full Consequences of avoiding Contraception, so I add this observation from Jonathan Swift:

“I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked or boiled….”

From the Washington Post article on Keroack’s appointment and whether it may be seen as Democrat-goading on the President’s part:

White House spokeswoman Dana M. Perino cautioned against reading a larger pattern into the recent moves, saying, “You have to look at these things in isolation.”

She added: “The president has said we will look to reach common ground where we can find it. However, he’s not going to compromise on his principles.”

You have to look at these things in isolation?

This administration loves to tell us what we “have to” do.
