News Briefs
- Ellen Birkett Morris writes to let us know that her poem “Origins” has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. The poem appeared in and was nomnated by Mindprints: A Literary Journal. The poem itself can be found here.
- Wade Hall has published a highly positive review of Jane Gentry’s new collection, Portrait of the Artist as a White Pig (LSU Press, 2006), in the Courier-Journal. And the accompanying photo of Jane is just radiant.
- Wind Publications has released What Feeds Us, a new poetry collection by Diane Lockward, one of my favorite poets. I cannot begin to announce every worthy new book Wind puts out. It’s a very busy small press. Full catalogue here.
- Dave Cazden writes that he will be at the Maysville Festival of Books on December 9 and 10. This will be the second year for this energetic festival, sponsored by the Maysville Community and Technical College and the Maysville Museum Center.
- Louisville poet Reid Bush is featured on The Writers Almanac today. The poem is from his Larkspur Press publication What You Know.
- Getting Published Isn’t Easy. Meredith Sue Willis includes a list of markets in her Books for Readers Newsletter #88. The list, from Shelley Ettinger, ranks publications as Too Competitive for Words, Ultra Competitive etc. down through Still Plenty Competitive. Although the list is intended for writers of short fiction, it includes many of the same magazines that poets submit to and I’m sure the competitive ranking is the same.
