Election Day is dawning here in Central Kentucky rainy but warm. I remember few election days in my lifetime, getting longish, that were otherwise. Perhaps this is because elections fall in November, which here in the Ohio Valley anyway, tends to be a rainy month, not too cold.

Rain is a blessing from the gods but it does tend to discourage voters. I hope you will vote today, if you haven’t voted already, in spite of whatever weather or lines you may encounter.

Meantime, I found this in my in-box this morning:

I am writing tonight exclusively to women, to urge you to consider the effect your vote tomorrow may have on your future, and that of your daughters and granddaughters. It is my belief that if the political situation in America continues as it is, to vote for Republicans is to vote against yourself. At the moment, there are no checks and balances in our federal government, and the loss of the civil rights our mothers and grandmothers fought so hard to obtain hangs by a thread. America today has been built upon the concept of balance, including the one most important to our gender - that of equal rights. I believe we are in grave danger of losing those rights, unless balance is restored to American government. I can say to those of you who remember my mother, that, were she alive, she would wholeheartedly agree with me. I think your vote tomorrow may eventually affect your right to vote. I ask you to consider that when you go to the polls.

My own mother is 89 and thoroughly despises what the last six years have done to our country. She was born without the right to vote. I urge all of you, men and women alike, not to take that right for granted.

Vote.
