JimT’s reading at Joseph-Beth

We are having record low highs here in Central Kentucky — yesterday the temperature only reached 40 degrees Fahrenheit and it was just about as cold on Sunday, with a wild west wind ripping the not-quite-turned leaves off the trees. This odd turn of weather is a delight to the local weather men but a bit of a misery to the rest of us.

Still the woodcarver and I braved it to go out and hear Jim Tomlinson read at Joseph-Beth. It was well worth the effort. Anyone who’s known Jim for long knows that he is a quiet, self-effacing type, but he turns out to be a wonderful reader. And it was a treat to see his delight in being featured in the current Esquire, linked with none other than Rick Bass as the author of readable short stories.

It also turned into a bit of a mini-reunion of our old KGAC family: Jim’s wife, the fiber artist Gin Petty and that weaver extraordinaire jo mink and her husband, UK’s Dr. John Mink.

So, a delightful Sunday afternoon with much laughter and hugging.

Jim is reading at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning on October 27 and performing at The Jazz Factory in Louisville on November 16. One performs at the Jazz Factory, with a jazz duo behind, and I am going to hate having to miss Jim’s appearance there. He has a strategy, he tells me, for turning short stories into jazz.

Besides, he was there to egg me on at my last rather infamous appearance there (scroll down). Just for the record, I have been invited back folks.

Meanwhile, I continue putting the blog back together. The new software and I are a bit at cross purposes about things like wierd poetry typography so I have some problems to solve yet with the help of my guru at Daily Troll Design. Still, I have the pages all back in their proper format and have restored the review of Charlie Hughes’s collection, Shifting for Myself, which was one of the things lost. Now begins the slow work of locating and restoring two years worth of graphics.

Bear with me.
