hexagonal “Denny’s” sign
starry “Carl’s”
loopy “McDonald’s”
eight-petaled yellow “Shell”
blue-and-white “Mobile” with a big red “O”
growing in the asphalt riparian zone
by the soft roar of the flow
of Interstate 5.
