Streets of Fire

Streets of FireAccording to a user comment on the IMDb,

At the time of STREETS OF FIRE’s release, director Walter Hill said in an interview that he wanted to utilise every single known cliché

and if that was his intent, he had the misfortune to succeed mightily.

My quest for Ry Cooder soundtracks led me to this “Rock & Roll Fable,” which Wikipedia says has now become achieved cult status. It is sort of fun to watch Willem Defoe do a Ziggy Stardust turn as the villain. And the movies uses a lot of neat old 1950s Studebakers (I think my post about my brother the dirt-track legend is one of the things that got lost.), and some impressive motorcycle stunt riding. Actually, if you think of Ziggy Stardust in a 1950 Studebaker, you just about have the look and feel of this movie.
But “Streets of Fire” is never going to be another Rocky Horror. Not even Ry Cooder is very interesting here, beyond an occasional ominous slide riff.
