Wartime Agenda

from Helen Losse’s poem of that title:

I get my news from the web now,
sports from television,
unless they too show us the war, which I

am sure not to watch. Somehow, seeing
pictures without the sound keeps me calmer,
except the one in the Washington Post.

The Iraqi child there—reportedly injured by
gun fire—was comforted by a woman, while
she held him—face still bleeding—in motherly arms.

After seeing that, I penned some stinging words.
I actually wrote, “Can’t we ALL become people
who do not shoot each other’s children?” That’s all….

Go read the whole poem.

Thank you for the poem, Helen.

I didn’t do a September 11 post as such. A couple of reasons. Most basic is that I tend to live outside the calendar and can’t mourn to a schedule. But then the whole thing is so hyped now that I can’t really hear my own mind about it.

Nevertheless, I appreciate what other people do. I See Invisible People also had a great September 11 post.
