Ed McClanahan has, over the years, been generous to the writing community in Kentucky. If I remember correctly, he was involved in forming the very first of what is now called the O/K/I Writer’s Roundtable back in 1989. The Roundtable has brought writers such as Andrew Hudgins, David Citino, and Frank X. Walker to the Ohio River Valley.

Mr. McClanahan is now lending his name and fund-raising abilities to the Ed McClanahan Fellowship in Writing at ArtCroft in Nicholas County.

McClanahan will kick off fund-raising for this fellowship with a reading tomorrow at the Maysville Convention Center. He will read from his new memoir “Dog Loves Ellie.” For more information, check the Kentucky Literary Newsletter and Calendar.

The ArtCroft Foundation is a non-profit organization located on 400 acres of rolling hills near Carlisle, Kentucky. Its Residency Program hosts artists, writers, musicians, and other creative people for one to four weeks, working at their chosen craft in the inspiring and welcoming wilderness. ArtCrofts Kentucky Writers Collection, an extensive library housed on the farm, is available for use by local ArtCroft members.

For more information on ArtCroft, to apply for a residency, become a member, or to make your tax-deductible donation to support their programs, visit www.ArtCroft.org.

  • Daunting, in my black orthopedics, to cross campus behind a blond co-ed in Daisy Dukes, jazz drive lanyard fluttering from her hip pocket. 4 days ago
  • Balance: I follow a small sedan through city traffic, a Jesus fish to the left of its license plate, a Darwin fish to the right. 1 week ago
