Are British wasps better at home decor?
(9)
Here’s a thing I’ve wanted to show you for some time. It’s Harry’s close-up photo of a wasp’s nest that plumbers found in his attic. I just think these colors are amazing. There’s another of these photos here, taken on a sunny day. It’s more colorful and has wonderful depth and texture, like a braided rug, but I like the tones and symmetry in this one, those gorgeous grays and pinks.

Gorgeous pictures! As a papermaker, I’m envious. I’ve done hornets’ nests, but it’s impossible to duplicate the intricate patterning of nature’s papermakers.

These are interesting, Sherry, as was your correspondence with Harry.

Thanks, Harry, for the link and Helen for the kind comments. I love the 3-D quality you see in the photos. Gin — I’ve seen some of your baskets that might rival this.

If you search for the terms [baldface hornets nest] using Google, on the third page about halfway down you’ll come across this:

Neat, Gin! Do you have a diary where you tell how you managed that?

That hornet’s nest is fab.

Thanks for asking, Sherry. There is an extended entry in my journal (several days in June 2004) about creating the nest.

Yes, of course! Links are (almost) always flattering.
