Here’s where I prove that I’m an old poop.
I woke up this morning asking myself this burning question (oh no, another one!):
Did Lenny Bruce get busted for obscenity three times, fight it all the way to the Supreme Court, and die bankrupt on the crapper of a heroin overdose where the cops put the needle back in his arm and took photos, did Lenny Bruce do all this so Jim Carrey could get rich pretending to talk out of his ass?
Is this an example of irony?
Or just the law of unintended consequences?

I hesitate to list my blog–haven’t looked at it recently. No telling what kind of nonsense is there. Anyway, the answers to your questions are Yes, yes, and yes, I expect. I read LB’s autobiography, and his most outrageous act seems to have been to say he thought breasts were nice. Anyhow, it may be we have passed the point of shockability as a culture. Which disappoints me, as I like to shock people (in a good way, though). What do you do to top September the Eleventh and the entire unfortunate presidency of George W. Bush, who makes even a liberal like me long for the days of Tricky Dick? The fact that Bush can kill tens of thousands of innocents, run a concentration camp in Cuba worse than Fidel dreams of, tap every phone in America, tell the courts to kiss off if they don’t like it, and then have Congress look the other way and the public does not unanimously call for Bush’s immediate impeachment, conviction, and imprisonment–well, I guess Jim’s butt can have the last word. . .

Back when Bush stole the first election, in 2000, newscasters were congratulating us for not having taken to the streets in riot over this stolen election. I thought at the time and I still think today that a little taking to the streets was in order. How can we tolerate all this?
