from this morning’s Lexington Herald-Leader:

INEZ - A small Eastern Kentucky city apparently has become the first municipality in Kentucky to adopt English as its official language.

City commissioners in Inez, which has a population of 466 and is the seat of Martin County on the West Virginia border, voted unanimously Friday to adopt a resolution that requires all of the town’s official documents and all regular business to be written or conducted in English.

City Clerk Susan Moore said the vote was not sparked by any incident or motion by commissioners in Inez, which officials said has no residents for whom Spanish is the native language.

“It was just an idea the mayor had in his head,” Moore said.

Coleman pointed out that a resolution, unlike an ordinance, is just an opinion and not a law. Young agreed.

[Further note: I see Beau Bridges in the role of the mayor and Delta Burke as Susan Moore.]
