Flower in a Crannied Driveway

Flower in a Crannied Wall
FLOWER in the crannied wall,
I pluck you out of the crannies;—
Hold you here, root and all, in my hand,
Little flower—but if I could understand
What you are, root and all, and all in all,
I should know what God and man is.
— Alfred, Lord Tennyson
[Update: A reader writes to say "what you are" little flower is a wood poppy. I had thought, like Gin, that it is a small-flowered buttercup. It does look more like the poppy but I hadn't noticed the characteristic hairy bud pod. I think, looking at these web sites, that it may be possible we have both in our yard. We do not subscribe to a lawn service.]

Can’t tell anything about the foliage, but from the flower and timing I’ll guess small flowered buttercup. Whatever, I like your flower better than my nature picture today (which is a sneaky way of making you visit my front page to look).

Now, now, Sherry, let’s put the blame where it belongs. It’s Mother Nature’s design, not mine.
