Kudzu

Exciting literary work seems to be happening in our community college system these days. Elizabethtown has The Heartland Review and the Joy Bale Boone poetry prize, which has been going two years (I think) and has been judged by Charlie Hughes and Davis McCombs.

Now Hazard’s Kudzu has announced their Poetry Prize for 2006 with a prize of $100, to be judged by Frank X. Walker.

Any theme or style of poetry under 40 lines submitted blind (name and contact information on a separate cover sheet along with title of the work). Submit as many as 3 poems for a one-time entry fee of $5.00. SASE if you want your materials returned.

Submission deadline is February 1, 2006. Mail submission and entry fee to:

Kudzu: Poetry Contest
ATTN: Donna Sparkman
HCTC – Knott County Branch

The winner will be announed at the Evening with Poets in April 2006.

Kudzu is also sponsor a micro-fiction contest, a cover art contest (no fee), and the 2006 Gurney Norman Essay Contest (on any aspect of G.N. to be judged by Chris Holbrook).

Open submissions for the 2006 issue are also being accepted in poetry, fiction (under 4,000 words), essays (under 4,000 words) reviews (1,000-2,000 words), and artwork.
