Deadline for the Thomas Merton Foundation Poetry of the Sacred Contest is December 31, 2005 [corrected 10/16]. From their guidelines, which can be found here:
What is poetry of the sacred? Poetry that expresses, directly or indirectly, a sense of the holy or that, by its mode of expression, evokes the sacred. The tone may be religious, prophetic, or contemplative.
Judge for this year’s contest is Kentucky’s own Poet Laureate, Sena Jeter Naslund.
No entry fee, by the way, and submissions can be made by e-mail.
The prize for first place is $500. Three honorable mentions receive $50 each. Some past winners and HMs include Barbara Crooker and Ann Fisher-Wirth, whose collection Five Terraces is just out from Wind Publications.
You can read winning poems back to 1999 at this link.
