In the October issue of Poetry, Daisy Fried ends her review of Camille Paglia’s Break, Blow, Burn thus:
“In Paglia’s world, poetry is fun, even titillating.”
Ahem. Titillating. Somebody tell Tom Godell.
Speaking of whom, it’s pledge week at WUKY. And at the end of the day, WUKY is still a good station with old friends at the mics and great support of local culture. And they did put The Writers Almanac back on the air.
Give as generously as your purse and your standards will allow.

In every fine poem, there is a quality of genius — of vital spirit working through material of interest…it cannot be imparted by teaching…it is a gift from a divine agency or basic life force. …Finally the very fact that there are qualities of eloquence beyond the reach of technique can only be learned, as Longinus remarks, by a study of technique.
