Being a Bluegrass girl by birth and marriage, I haven’t lived in Appalachia as defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Nevertheless, I attended this conference last year when it was held at Cumberland College. I can recommend it as very well-organized and energetic, with much to offer in the way of plenary sessions, workshops, readings, publisher’s tables, and good networking. I met some poets whose work I hadn’t known, learned about some regional publishers, and was generally impressed with the enthusiasm, intelligence, and talent of Appalachian writers.
